Gossamer Gear G4-20 Ultralight 42 Backpack
Product information
- Manufacturer: Gossamer Gear
- Product code: G4
Gossamer Gear G4-20 is an ultralight backpack suitable for treks and pilgrimages, but also for shorter trips. It is a new version of the G4 backpack, designed by the founder of the American brand Gossamer Gear Glen Van Peski many years ago.
It fits right in between the popular Kumo and Gorilla models in the Gossamer Gear range and has quickly become a best seller. At 42 litres, the pack is almost 200g lighter (!) than the Gorilla model with an additional waist belt. The lower weight has been achieved by cutting down some of the elements. In particular, the G4-20 does not have a rigid frame, so it holds its shape a bit less well, but this is not a major problem. The waist belt on the G4 is fixed and is part of the pack, so you can't choose its size, which can be a disadvantage for some body types. The G4-20 also lacks an internal back pocket for a hydration pack.
There is a new, more rigid type of reinforcement in the back that serves as a very practical removable seat. Compared to the Kumo, the G4-20 mainly offers more volume and a significantly more massive hip belt, thus better transferring more load to the hips.
In the S and M size and when filled to the appropriate limits using the compression straps, it can also be taken as hand luggage on the plane.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE SIZE OF THE BACKPACK?
Have the length of your spine measured from the level of the iliac crest (the top of the bone on the side of your back) to the C7 vertebrae at the base of your neck. This is the top of the first vertebra that protrudes when the head is tilted.
